Teal Light Night Raises Awareness of Ovarian Cancer

Little Rock’s downtown bridges lit up for Teal Light Night. September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and the bridge lighting is one way the Arkansas Ovarian Cancer Coalition helps bring attention to the disease.

Alesa Garner and the New Outlook team helped found the coalition in 2009.

The mission of the coalition is to educate and empower women to recognize and report early warning signs and symptoms and to seek appropriate medical attention with a GYN Oncologist. Seventy percent of women diagnosed in Arkansas are late stage, which has a 5-year survival rate of 50%.

The coalition works to educate and bring awareness so women know the signs and can be diagnosed at an earlier stage when the disease is more treatable.
