Trista Rowley Presented With DAISY Award
Congratulations Trista Rowley, RN, Cath Lab Recovery, for being presented with a DAISY Award in Hot Springs!
She was nominated by a coworker for her compassion.
Empathic, caring, and kind are all words that describe many, if not most, nurses. According to her coworker, Trista demonstrates these character traits every day she comes in to work as well as a keen attention to detail when caring for her patients.
The coworker who nominated her said a patient came in for a biopsy with multiple cancerous lesions on his head and skin, and was in a lot of pain. Trista realized he had majorly declined since last seeing the oncologist. She also recognized that the patient didn’t have insurance, was of a lower economic class and didn’t understand the healthcare system.
“Trista stepped in as a patient advocate in realizing this man needed attention for the progression of his disease and, when we normally do not schedule follow-ups for patients after a biopsy, she was on the phone with the cancer clinic and got him an appointment for just 2 days later. Not only that, she worked with the procedure physician to manage this patient’s pain post-operatively,” said the coworker.
By the time the patient left, he was saying “I feel like a new man.” His pain was at a manageable level.
“What impressed me the most, though, was how Trista gave this man and his family the words to say to the oncologist in order to get the care he truly needed. At one point, the patient’s wife and teenage daughter were outside of the patient’s room talking about how Trista was the first person in the healthcare system to demonstrate true empathy and compassion towards their family member,” said the coworker.
“I felt so proud to work with her. Trista leads in kindness by example and I know our unit staff are better because we see her caring for her patients with excellence every time she comes to work. I am so thankful I get to work alongside her.”
