Case Management Team Honored with Humankindness Award

We are proud to announce that Alicia D’Orr, Allyson Bridges, and Father William Carpenter from the Case Management Team at the Infirmary have been recognized with the Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award! This dedicated team consistently goes above and beyond, but it was one particularly challenging patient where they showed just how far they’re willing to go to be helpful. Here’s their nomination:

“The Case Management team worked diligently to secure resources for one of our uninsured patients with a significant prolonged hospitalization (>2 months) with very poor prognosis. The patient’s wife was adamant that medical treatment persisted, despite his likely outcome. The Case Management team, chaplain, Ethics, therapy, RD, and bedside nursing frequently collaborated with the patient/family to ensure the patient’s discharge needs were met. They vigorously searched for resources to provide the patient at discharge, which proved difficult with his lack of insurance and complex medical needs. They secured 50+ days of donated tube feeds and supplies for the patient and the family was taught how to administer tube feeds and medications to the patient by bedside nursing. They even located a donated hospital bed and a donated wheelchair for the patient to use at home. The patient was able to successfully discharge home with needed medical equipment, tube feed supplies, resources, and family support. This team was persistent in obtaining any and all needed resources for this patient, who otherwise would have no options. We are so thankful for their compassion they showed to this patient and family!”

Alicia, Allyson, and Father William, your unwavering persistence and deep compassion truly make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. We are incredibly grateful for your dedication. Thank you to Chick-fil-A at Markham and University for sponsoring the Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award.
