CVICU Nurse, Lynn Peck, receives May 2017 Daisy Award

Lynn Peck, RN, was the May 2017 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner at CHI St. Vincent. Lynn is a CVICU nurse at the Infirmary.

Here’s an excerpt from his nomination letter:

Because this patient remains in the hospital this is slow coming. Mr. J. was in for open heart surgery. He has to have the less invasive approach, but due to the amount of stenosis, there was no other choice. All went well, however about an hour later this nurse was doing all he could to save Mr. J’s life due to a heart bleed. The Dr. was back in surgery We left the room with a sense of calm because of this nurse’s expertise. The stand, lines, many medications, plus syringes were viewed for only a moment by us but the nurse used all that was available and with sufficient accuracy that we were called back before the Dr. could intervene. This nurse saved Mr. J’s life. This man went through traumas that showed that this nurse was caring for Mr. J. under the guiding hand of the Good Shepherd. Mr. J. required many well skilled individuals and many deserve recognition. However it was this nurse who saved his life. God bless him. He sure blessed us.

The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
