Emergency Codes to be Updated Nov. 13

CHI St. Vincent will update its emergency codes Nov. 13. The new codes will use plain language and will eliminate the need for most color codes.

In early November, leaders will distribute new coworker badges with updated codes. New emergency red books will also be distributed in early November.

The new codes will allow coworkers to communicate easier in an emergency. For example, rather than calling a code pink, coworkers will say, infant / child abduction.

Some color codes will remain, including Code Red for fire, Code Blue for cardiac arrest and Code Gold to return a patient to their bed.

A required LEARN module will be assigned later this month with a Nov. 13 completion deadline.
