Hot Springs Receives National Magnet Designation
Hot Springs has received national Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for its continued commitment to nursing excellence and compassionate patient care.
Magnet designation is the highest honor bestowed upon an organization for professional nursing practice and recognizes excellence in nursing leadership, clinical practice, innovations and positive outcomes. Hot Springs becomes the fourth hospital in Arkansas to receive Magnet designation and one of only 530 hospitals nationwide to receive that recognition. The Infirmary in Little Rock became the first hospital in Arkansas to earn Magnet designation in 2013 and was re-designated in 2018.
“Magnet designation is an incredible honor for CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs, our amazing nurses and all of our healthcare professionals are committed to this healing ministry and committed to providing compassionate care for this community,” said CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs President Douglas Ross, MD. “It recognizes not only the excellence of our nursing staff but also our commitment to their ongoing development through nursing education. We believe our nurses are crucial components to a patient’s healthcare experience and positive outcomes, and that is why we work to train and bring the very best nursing talent here to Hot Springs.”
Magnet-recognized hospitals employ the highest standards of quality and ensure that patient care and safety remain a top priority throughout the healthcare journey. Magnet hospitals also tend to exhibit higher registered nurse (RN) retention rates, fewer RN vacancies and less burnout than other hospitals. Research has shown this commitment to excellence also results in higher patient satisfaction, decreased mortality rates, shorter hospital stays and improved overall patient safety.
“As our healing ministry works to build healthier communities here in Arkansas, we have long realized that our nurses are the key to that ongoing success and consistent improvement in patient outcomes,” said CHI St. Vincent Market CEO Chad Aduddell. “This recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center provides independent verification of the inspirational work taking place at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs and the ongoing dedication to its nurses and to the patients and families they serve.”
ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program involves a rigorous process that includes site visits; nurse and patient interviews; as well as public comments to identify organizations that recognize the invaluable potential of nurses to lead healthcare change. At the core is the experience of nurses, recognizing that optimum nurse satisfaction results in lower nurse attrition and improved patient experience.
“The nurses at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs are some of the most committed and professional healthcare professionals in our state. Our journey through this designation process has empowered them to reach their full potential and truly made an already incredible hospital even better,” said Bryan Williams, Chief Nursing Executive at CHI St. Vincent. “As we move forward, we remain committed to supporting our nurses through education, development and collaborative practice as we work to continually attract the very best nurses to CHI St. Vincent hospitals so they can deliver the highest quality care to our patients.”
In addition to receiving Magnet designation, CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs has been recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in Arkansas year after year by Arkansas Business and Best Companies Group. The hospital is also regularly recognized by national organizations for excellence in healthcare. Magnet designation continues for a four year period after which hospitals will go through a recertification process.
