Abby Starkel, RN and Jeff Young, RT Save a Patient’s Life

Abby Starkel found a patient with the tracheostomy dislodged and in respiratory distress. She acted quickly and called respiratory. Jeff Young responded to the call and arrived at the bedside. He was unable to reinsert the tracheostomy. He carefully repositioned it so the patient could be ventilated until an ENT physician arrived to replace the tracheostomy.

Abby and Jeff Had a Questioning Attitude. They found a patient in distress and acted quickly to ventilate the patient. They used the SafetyFirst technique to Stop and Resolve. Their quick actions saved this patient’s life.
