Brown’s Compassion Earns Her July Daisy

daisy0716brown3Lauren Brown, BSN RN, is a winner of the July DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at CHI St. Vincent. Brown is a Registered Nurse in Neurosurgery ICU at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary.

Here’s an excerpt from Brown’s nomination letter, which was written by a patient’s relative:

“There is no one situation that she wasn’t there for us the entire time, and even requested to work on her scheduled day off because she wanted to be there when my daddy died. After taking him off all machines, she was practically in his room the entire time. She answered every question we had and prayed over daddy each time before leaving the room (which we certainly appreciated). She even cried with us. She is a huge asset to your team and we love her.”

The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
