Carla Lewis Recognized as Service Hero at Infirmary

Carla Lewis, a nurse on the Infirmary’s 4th floor, was recognized as a Service Hero for demonstrating care and COMPASSION. A 100-year-old patient was admitted to the Infirmary after falling and breaking her hip at her nursing home. Carla Lewis cared for the patient during much of her stay.

When I met Carla, she had entered the room to take my aunt’s vitals. She was tender, compassionate and kind. Carla was the kind of nurse that carries a big heart and a loving spirit. She got down to my aunt’s level, spoke to her where my aunt could hear her and asked her questions.

Recently, I have had many hospital visits for myself or my family. While all nursing we received was standard and qualified, no care in any other facility came close to the feeling we all felt when Carla left the room. Carla exemplified that sometimes love and kindness really is the best medicine. She is more than an asset, she makes your patients and their families feel important, special and treasured.
