CCU RN Honored with Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award

Each month, CHI St. Vincent recognizes a coworker who goes above and beyond for their patients in a way that directly impacts their care and patient experience. For July, that coworker is Shyenne Graves, RN, who works in the CCU at the Infirmary.

Shyenne’s patient was in CCU after a failed stenting in the cath lab. A CV surgeon came by on a consult and decided to schedule the patient for a CABG the next day with a CT scan planned for the morning. However, Shyenne sensed that something was wrong with the patient that others hadn’t detected, and advocated firmly for the patient to have an immediate CT. After getting everyone in agreement, Shyenne took the patient to CT herself, where the results came back critical. The patient was immediately taken to CVICU for treatment. Without Shyenne’s professionalism and courage in advocacy, the patient could have experienced grave consequences.

Thank you, Shyenne, for your quick thinking and for going the extra mile for your patient. You are a fine example for all of us at CHI St. Vincent.

Thanks as always to Chick-fil-A at Markham and University for sponsoring the Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award!
