Cindy Wilhite, RN in Outpatient, Named Daisy Award winner in Hot Springs
Caring for our patient’s families is just as important as caring for our patients. That’s why Cindy Wilhite, RN in the Outpatient Department for more than 20 years, was recognized as a Daisy Award winner.
Recently, Outpatient had a non-English speaking patient who was receiving chemo and was staying at the Mercy Lodge with no family, food or money. For three days, Cindy purchased meals for the patient and delivered them to him at the Mercy Lodge.
“This is only one of many examples over the years of her kindness and generosity. She has anonymously helped many patients and their families and coworkers. …She is always willing to alter her schedule to meet the needs of the department. She graciously takes on difficult situations with patients and their families. …Cindy exhibits extraordinary skills and knowledge. Often, inpatient units will call requesting Cindy personally to assist in starting a difficult IV. She is highly deserving of this award because she truly exceeds the challenging requirements and expectations for this award. She lifts the spirits of all those around her.”
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
