Emily Batterton Celebrated as Service Hero

Congratulations Emily Batterton, Care Coordinator RN, on being recognized as a Service Hero!

Emily works in Case Management in Hot Springs.

She was nominated by both a coworker and a patient’s family member.

The coworker said before she even got to work, Emily had helped a lady whose car had caught fire. Once she arrived at work, she practically saved a patient’s life. While visiting a patient in her case manager role, Emily employed her nursing assessment skills to realize that the patient’s abdomen appeared distended.  She alerted medical staff and the patient then received a CT scan and was taken for urgent surgery.

There was also a patient that had been in care for several days, and he chose to explore palliative or hospice care so that he could go home and be with his family.

“He expressed his fears, to myself and my coworker, Emily, of passing away in the hospital and missing what might be his last Christmas with his loved ones. Emily jumped into action and worked tirelessly to coordinate services so there would not be delays in carrying out our patient’s wishes.”

The coworker said because of Emily’s diligence, tenacity, and dedication to her patients, the patient was accepted by Arkansas Hospice promptly and he was able to spend Christmas with his family, at home, the way he wanted.

Emily was also nominated for the award by a patient’s family member.

The family member said Emily was extraordinary in her skills and knowledge. They said she was so helpful and informative when assisting her husband to transition into rehab. The wife said Emily stayed on his case to help get him placed in a good facility even while waiting for approval in the process.

“She is a sweet and caring person; she never left us and always communicated with us through all of the steps.”
