Hot Springs Honors Organ Donor

photo-hsThe Hot Springs team took part in creating a floragraph (a portrait made of floral materials) to honor the life of Evan Cotillier, a 16-year-old organ and eye donor from Cabot, AR.

The floragraph arrived in Hot Springs and coworkers placed crushed flower pedals to complete the picture of Evan, who suffered from epilepsy. Family attended the event and shared Evan’s story. A month before Evan passed away, he impressed upon his parents to make sure his organs were donated. His heart gave new life to a 20-year-old in Iowa.

Evan’s floragraph will be displayed on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float entered in the Rose Parade in Pasadena California on New Year’s day. Since 2002, floragraphs have been created each year to honor deceased donors that gave the gift of life by donating organ and/or tissue. The float is the centerpiece of a national effort of more than 50 organizations to reach a broad audience with the simple, life-giving message that organ, eye, and tissue donation saves and heals lives.

Fact: At any given time in Arkansas, there are at least 300 patients on the waiting list for new organs.
