Kandyce Cia Wins Daisy Award
Kandyce Cia, RN, was the March 2017 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner at CHI St. Vincent. Cia is a nurse on 4 West at the Infirmary.
Here’s an excerpt from her nomination letter:
“Before this nurse became my wife’s nurse, no one had attempted to examine my wife’s ileostomy. As soon as this nurse came into the room the first time, she began to examine everything, including the ileostomy and immediately emptied it. Up to that time, I had done this operation every time. This nurse is very efficient, kind and encouraging. At one time, she could see my sadness and broken spirit over my wife’s illness and she kindly consoled me. I very much appreciated her for this. May God bless this nurse.
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
