Morrilton Turns 100 Years Old
All this week we are celebrating the 100th birthday of CHI St. Vincent Morrilton. It’s an amazing achievement for one of the nation’s best critical access hospitals and one of Arkansas’s most respected rural healthcare centers.
This week we held a number of events and giveaways for coworkers at Morrilton, including a special 100-year ceremony Wednesday that was attended by the mayor and county judge. We also unveiled the new timeline wall that details some of the important milestones that brought CHI St. Vincent Morrilton to where it is today. See below for photos and a video.
Morrilton started in 1925 as St. Anthony’s Hospital, which was opened as a 14-bed facility at The Burrow House by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery. The hospital changed locations a couple of times over the next ten years before settling into its new facility on Green St. The two-story building was designed by famous Arkansas architect A.N. McAninch and boasted 29 beds. in 1994, with the cooperation of the Benedictine Sisters and the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Little Rock, St. Anthony’s Medical Center joined the St. Vincent Health System. The hospital was officially renamed to CHI St. Vincent Morrilton in 2011.
