Hot Springs RN Receives DAISY for Compassionate End-of-Life Care
We’re proud to announce that Brooke Gill, RN, at Hot Springs has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award! Brooke was honored for her care of a patient who suffered a serious and sudden cardiac event that unfortunately led to an early death. The family had this to say about her:
“My healthy, fun-loving son had a cardiac event. Before that, he had been feeling well. In fact, he had just returned home from a weekend adventure with his son, father, and best friend. He was stabilized in the ER, then transferred to the ICU. We had great hope that he would make a full recovery; however, that was not to be. His wife and I rode an emotional roller coaster in the ICU unit with him for the next four days. The rest of the family prayed from home. From hope to despair, his nurse was there to help. She was professional in her treatment of my son and the entire family. She was the most compassionate and caring nurse I’ve had the pleasure to know. She was constantly watching over my son and taking wonderful care of him. In addition, she was providing the rest of the family with compassion, hugs, intent listening, and whatever else we needed to get through the most difficult days of our lives. It was like having another family member with us. She stayed to attend his hero walk, and supported his family and friends through his organ donation. I called her our “angel.” It was like she was placed in our lives when we really needed her selfless understanding and compassionate caring. I thank God each day for nurses like Brooke.”
These are the hardest moments that any family has to go through, and Brooke was there for this family in a way that helped them find peace. Thank you, Brooke. You truly are a wonderful nurse.
Don’t forget, nominations for the DAISY Award can come from anybody, even coworkers! If you know of a team member who has demonstrated excellence in nursing, you can nominate them by clicking this link and submitting the form.
