Lawrence Barnes Named Service Hero at Infirmary

Lawrence Barnes, an EVS coworker at the Infirmary for many years, was named a Service Hero for displaying the value of COMPASSION.

Lawrence worked in the women and children’s area for more than 30 years. He was known to give many new parents, especially the dads, great tips on how to succeed at parenting and counsel them on the importance of being there for their family.

Lawrence also regularly provided sound advice, much like a father, to the nurses. His fundamental belief is that you treat others as you would want to be treated and give everyone the same level of respect.

Lawrence is well-known in the hospital because he speaks to everyone he meets. He loved being a part of the women and children’s area. When the department closed in February, many thought he would retire, but he didn’t want to. His age is a secret, and although he is years past retirement age, he doesn’t want to stop working.

Lawrence’s attitude makes people at ease; he represents all of our core values and he lives the way we all should. He is faith-filled and truly walks the talk. Lawrence is a daily inspiration to those who come in contact with him. He would say there is nothing heroic about his actions, but we know better. He makes the world a much better place with his smile and kind spirit.
