Magnet Redesignation Message from Brenda
A message from Brenda Fischer, PhD, RN, MBA, FACHE, CPHQ, Magnet Program Director: I was pleased to join CHI St. Vincent in January to facilitate our journey for Magnet redesignation for the Infirmary. I wanted all of you to know that we have completed our document for redesignation and will submit them to ANCC on June 1. Many of you were involved in this rigorous process of identifying examples and gathering evidence. The spirit and compassionate care provided by our nursing staff has deeply impressed me. The review of our documents takes approximately four months until we are notified of moving forward to having a site visit.
In a nutshell……. The Magnet Recognition Program was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), based primarily on the research conducted by the American Academy of Nursing, to recognize healthcare organizations that provide nursing excellence. The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes health-care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Consumers rely on Magnet designation as the ultimate credential for high quality nursing. Achieving Magnet status is the highest level of honor awarded by the ANCC and is recognized nationally as the “gold standard” of nursing excellence.
It is not about being perfect…it’s about being perfectly committed to Living our Mission and continual renewal and improvement.
I will make sure you are informed along the way and welcome your questions about what Magnet recognition means. You can contact me at [email protected].
