Morrilton Service Hero Brought Peace to Child Patient

Congratulations to Dr. Primus Mbawuike, ED in Morrilton, on being named a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero! Dr. Mbawuike was honored after he went to unusual lengths to help a patient in need.

The emergency department can be a scary place for adults, but even more so for children. That was the case for a young patient who had suffered a head injury that needed glue to seal the laceration. The patient was too distressed to allow the team to work on the cut. So Dr. Mbawuike left the ED, went to the cafeteria, and purchased a variety of candy bars. He took the candy back to the ED and let the child pick out his favorite one to have for free. That act of kindness helped soothe the anxious patient enough for the nurses to treat the head wound and send the family on their way.

Thank you, Dr. Mbawuike, for your creative and compassionate response that brought peace to a young patient. Don’t forget, if you know of a coworker who has gone above and beyond to help, you can nominate them for a Service Hero award! Just click this link to fill out the form and tell us about them.
