North Nutrition Services Coworker Named Service Hero
Congratulations to Darmel “Red” Bateman, Food and Nutrition Services at North, on being named a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero! Darmel has been nominated five times this year, and each nomination shows just how big of a heart for service Darmel has. Here are two nominations that show why he’s a deserving honoree:
“My daughter hadn’t eaten anything for two days because she was having brain surgery. I had called the kitchen and ordered some chicken tenders for her supper. The night nurse assumed she was on a liquid diet because I had asked for some chicken broth for her to try to get rid of some phylum in her throat. Her dinner tray was changed from chicken tenders to a liquid diet without looking at her chart, she was looking forward to eating that chicken and was disappointed when she got soup. I could cry, I went to the cafe to see if I could find something she would like. Red was so kind; he cooked her chicken tenders just for my daughter. She loved them, such a nice thing to do.”
“During the winter storm the hospital went under an inclement weather policy. Darmel came in on his days off and made sure that we had three delicious cooked meals. He stayed late to make sure the night staff had food. He also helped staff that were stuck in the snow in the parking lot. He is always a hard worker and goes above and beyond. Our experience with the quality of service and the food itself has improved tremendously since Darmel has started working at SVN. We are grateful to have his talent, dedication and creativity. He is an asset to SVN family.”
Thank you, Darmel, for being such a willing servant to people in need. You are truly a shining example for all of us. Remember, anyone can nominate a coworker for a Service Hero Award. If you know someone deserving, please take a moment to nominate them by clicking here.
