Shannon Hoey Receives September 2017 Daisy Award
Caring for our patient’s families is just as important as caring for our patients. That’s why we want to recognize Shannon Hoey, RN, in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), as a Daisy Award winner. Read her nomination:
“My dad was in the hospital two weeks ago. This was an unexpected diagnosis, and my family was devastated and fearful for my dad’s outcome. We had total trust in our physician. Throughout the stay, daily rounds occurred and discharge planning began. The nurse would accompany the physician on rounds and then returned for further explaining and thorough instructions on dad’s case and his home plan. I am his daughter and have been an RN for 35 years. I have worked at various hospitals from coast to coast and our nurse was excellent! I have seen lazy, average and many excellent nurses with high standards. This nurse is in the latter category. She goes above and beyond putting the patient at ease and taking unhurried time to answer every little question. She explained everything in detail and allowed my dad to be involved in the plan. She provided a follow-up phone number to call if we had any questions, which we did once each day at home for the first two days. We were made to feel like we were her most important patient, and she called us back the same day just as promised. What a safety net! I left home for Minnesota three days after dad’s surgery. With CHI Home Care and her phone number, I knew that dad was in good hands. She treated my dad with dignity and respect. I can’t say enough how impressed we all were with her professionalism, smile, her knowledge, and her enthusiasm for her job and her patient.”
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
