TikTok, Towels, Tourniquets, and a Teddy Bear to Help a Patient
Sometimes you have to get a little creative to truly deliver what your patient needs in the moment. That’s what led to Kylie Farewell, RN, in Hot Springs receiving our most recent CHI St. Vincent Service Hero honor!
Kylie’s team was managing a patient with dementia who was extremely upset and unable to be treated. The patient was struggling and repeatedly saying that she needed to hold a baby, and would not let the team take care of her. Kylie remembered from a TikTok video she had seen earlier how to create a makeshift teddy bear using rolled up towels and tourniquets to hold the doll together. She presented this towel bear to the patient, and the patient immediately settled down, holding the bear to her chest and patting it. The patient was happy, and the team was able to deliver the treatment needed.
Thank you, Kylie, for trying something new to help your patient! What a testament to your creativity and compassion.
