Mercedes Rogers Wins November DAISY Award
Mercedes Rogers, BSN RN, has been named a November 2015 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at CHI St. Vincent.
Rogers is a Registered Nurse on the Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary.
Here’s an excerpt from Rogers’ nomination letter written by a patient:
“I had been here for a week, and I wanted a shower. Mercedes took the time to help me. When my linens needed to be changed and everyone was busy, Mercedes took the time to help me. Whenever I needed something, Mercedes took the time to care about me and to care for me. She has been nothing but professional. I believe deeply in my heart that she deserves this award. She meets all of the expectations patients have for their nurses. It would not just make her day, but it would make mine knowing that I did something for her because of everything she did for me. May God continue to bless her and her family.”
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
