In 2015, system wide, there were 56 people who donated either organs, tissue or corneas. These people saved the lives of 27 others through organ donation, improved the quality of life through tissue donation for more than a thousand people, and restored sight through cornea donation to a minimum of 60 people.
Since all donated organs are not suitable for transplant, 5 organs were authorized for research. Research is responsible for all known medical treatments and therapies. Those 5 research organs may hold the key to the next medical breakthrough in the treatment of many end stage diseases.
These donors were honored with a dedicated rose on the Donate Life Float in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA on Jan 2, 2017. A Rose Ceremony will be held at the CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs to recognize the families of donors from Hot Springs.
