The goal of the walk, which began in 2002 as the Midge Bates Walk, is to support cancer research and cancer-related projects in our community. In 2005, there were less than 100 participants; by 2021, nearly 400 people participated by walking, kayaking or biking.
One in five people will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Almost every family is impacted by cancer and more research is needed to find better ways to identify, diagnose, treat and cure cancer. For more than 20 years, the Village Walk for Cancer Research has been walking to raise money and awareness and make a difference.
