Kelley Vanskiver Named Service Hero at Infirmary
Kelley Vanskiver was recognized as a Service Hero at the Infirmary for displaying the value of COMPASSION.
She was nominated by a coworker who witnessed the kindness she extended to a Behavioral Health patient, who had been in our ED for an extended time due to placement issues.
The patient was placed in the safe room for their protection, but it is also extremely monotonous and boring. At one point, the patient was sobbing uncontrollably stating that he “just wanted to go home.”
Kelley took it upon herself to go to our gift shop and purchase some safe items to keep our patient occupied (magazines and coloring books) until he was finally placed several hours later. The patient calmed down and was so appreciative.
