Leah Smith Named Infirmary Service Hero
Leah Smith was named Service Hero at Infirmary for displaying the value of COMPASSION.
A patient in ICU was ordered to receive chemotherapy during the evening shift. When oncology was contacted that evening to give the chemo, it was discovered that there was not a chemo-certified nurse on duty. On contacting the pharmacy about this, we found the chemo to have already been prepared and would be a significant loss if not used. The ICU PCC contacted Leah Smith at home and told her the situation. With no reservations, Leah packed up her child, came to ICU, and administered the chemo to the patient, saving a delay in patient care and thousands of dollars in medication wastage. She displayed true compassion for the patient and dedication to our mission.
Thank you Leah!
