Schwarznau is Hot Springs’ First Daisy Winner

June2016Daisy-SandraSchwartznauSandra Schwarznau, RN, is a winner of the June DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at CHI St. Vincent. Schwarznau is a Registered Nurse on the Outpatient unit at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs.

Here’s an excerpt from Schwarznau’s nomination letter, which was written by Lisa Stanfield, RN:

“I had a weekend to work in the Outpatient Department. Sandra heard there was going to be more than a few. She unselfishly stated: “I’ll come in to help you.” We ended up having to do blocks with anesthesia, which I had never done, and she taught me how to do them. She came in at 5:30 am on Saturday morning to help me when she didn’t have to. She never hesitated to say she would come in. She is an excellent nurse, valued co-worker and an excellent team player. She exhibits extraordinary skills and a wealth of information. She goes above and beyond her daily duties. She is an excellent teacher and she made me feel very confident in my new skills. I wanted her to be recognized for the valued employee, co-worker and friend that she is. She builds you up.”

The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
