Spivy Wins February DAISY Award

Melissa Spivy, RN, was named the February 2016 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winnee at CHI St. Vincent. Spivy is a Registered Nurse on the Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary.
Here’s an excerpt from Spivy’s nomination letter written by a patient:
“Melissa was excellent. There couldn’t be a better nurse. She fixed the toilet seat so I could use it easier…I have very long legs. She was training another nurse and still found time to check on me often. I was in the hospital for 17 days and on Day 13 my hair was horrible. She washed my hair and helped me with a both. I felt like a human being again. Melissa listened with her heart and she knows the value of little things. She has a wonderful smile. She has the skill and the knowledge to take care of the entire patient. She is precious. Truly a great nurse.”
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
