The Waste Not Food Program was created this year to reduce food waste. Leftover retail and patient food is flash frozen to be given to those in need of a meal. At the Infirmary, meals are handed out twice a week to coworkers and at North, the frozen meals are donated to Potluck Food Rescue. This year, over 7,300 meals have been served at the Infirmary and over 5,300 pounds of food have been donated to Potluck.
  6. U.S. News & World Report Rankings
U.S. News & World Report recognized the Infirmary, North and Hot Springs hospitals as high performing in multiple specialty areas this year. CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute was named the #1 heart program in the state for the third year in a row! See the whole list of recognized areas here.

  9. Time Capsule Opened in Hot Springs
A 97-year-old time capsule was discovered in the cornerstone of the former St. Joseph Hospital location in Hot Springs when workers were preparing the site for demolition. The capsule was opened in early December in front of a large crowd. Multiple historical items were removed, including a telephone directory; a bill for $108,000 for the plumbing company that was contracted for the hospital’s plumbing, heating, ventilation and refrigeration; a deed; an issue of The Sentinel-Record and a page from the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, both of which had articles about the hospital’s construction; a $1 silver note; lists of names of the Sisters of Mercy and student nurses; religious medallions; and various coins. The time capsule items will be preserved and displayed in Hot Springs.
