Hot Springs Drive-by Hero Receives DAISY Award

A major congratulations to Jon Bray, RN, of Hot Springs on being recognized with the DAISY Award! This is one of the more deserving award recognitions we’ve had at CHI St. Vincent, because Jon is being honored for something he did outside the hospital. Here’s the nomination:

“My sister suffered a stroke and passed out in her front yard. One of the nurses (Jon) at CHI was driving past her house and noticed her laying in the grass. He turned his car around and administered assistance and called the ambulance and she was transported to the CHI ER. She was able to receive the clot buster medicine that can reverse the effects of the stroke. Had he not stopped to help her, the time frame on administration of that drug could have expired and her recovery outcome could really have been grim. After receiving that drug, another clot was discovered and she was helicopter transported to CHI Infirmary where the neurosurgeon was able to retrieve this clot with a medical procedure. She is home walking and physically doing great. No physical therapy or occupational therapy required. Her speech is impaired and she is receiving speech therapy and working hard on getting this improved. We are so grateful that your employee stopped to help her as the outcome could really be so much worse. God bless you!”

It’s not just “right place, right time” here. It’s how Jon stopped, turned around, and gave potentially life-saving care to someone in need that makes this truly special. Thank you, Jon, for your heart for patients and your quick thinking that gave someone the help they couldn’t live without.
