ED Nurse’s Compassion and Expertise Honored with DAISY Award

Congratulations to Rynesha Benton, RN, at the Infirmary ED on receiving the DAISY Award! This is a national honor given to nurses who demonstrate extraordinary care and compassion toward their patients. Rynesha was recognized for her care of a chronically ill patient and his very anxious wife. Here’s what she had to say:

“My husband was seen in the ER a few days after having gallbladder surgery. He presented with excruciating pain, vomiting and chills. I was so scared because he had just had surgery so I was worried that something was very wrong like infection or sepsis. Rynesha quickly got my husband’s IV in even though he’s a hard stick and was able to get it on the first try. Rynesha was so compassionate in our time of need. We had already been through so much before having his gallbladder out, we weren’t sure what the problem was.  My husband had been throwing up and having pain for several months so as you can imagine, as his wife, I was extremely worried. Rynesha exhibited such compassionate care and clinical expertise, and went above and beyond.  She even hugged me when I was crying, which I have never ever had a nurse do before. It makes me so happy to know that there are still nurses out there who truly care.“
