John Atha Recognized as Infirmary Service Hero

John Atha was recognized as a Service Hero for displaying the value of COMPASSION.

John, RN in the Cardiac Cath Lab, was recognized for the kindness he showed to a patient and their family members who did not speak English.

John received the patient at the end of his shift, but consent had not been signed for the procedure. He went to another department to find an interpreter.

He persisted until he was able to locate two family members who also only spoke Spanish and had traveled to the Infirmary from out-of-state. John was able to get meals for them in the cafeteria and a room at the Guest House.

He took the time to walk them to the hotel and assisted with their check-in process.

“John demonstrated everything that is good about human caring and concern for others.”
