A Heart for Patients in Humankindness Award Honoree
We’re proud to recognize Russell Wallace, Patient Care Assistant, of the Infirmary with the Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award! Russell was nominated for his general excellence in his role at work, but in particular for his work with one patient who was scared to change units. Here’s the nomination:
“Russell consistently goes above and beyond in his role, embodying the true spirit of compassion and patient-centered care. He not only provides excellent clinical care but also takes the time to connect with patients and families on a personal level, ensuring they feel seen, heard and valued. His kindness is evident in the small gestures that make a big difference. This most recent stay, I was pulled into a room of a patient who was very anxious about coming over to step-down from CVICU. The patient raved about how kind, caring and attentive that Russell was. He was the sole reason that their anxiety calmed. Russell took the time to sit and have a conversation, ensuring that they were clean and comfortable. Russell also is shouted out for the humankindness he shows his co-workers. I receive daily texts about how attentive, kind, and caring that he is. He demonstrates that true kindness is not only about what we do but how we make others feel.”
Thank you, Russell, for the way you make your patients feel at ease. It’s a wonderful gift you share with them. Also, thank you to Chick-fil-A at Markham and University for sponsoring the Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award.
