Hot Springs RN Wins DAISY Award for Compassionate End-of-Life Care

Congratulations to Dylan Spencer, RN at Hot Springs, on receiving the prestigious DAISY Award! Dylan was recognized for his care of an end-of-life patient whose family had difficult decisions to make. Here’s what they had to say about Dylan:

“My husband was admitted to the ICU after multiple cardiac arrests. Dylan was the nurse handling his care upon admission and the following night. He was initially working diligently to resuscitate him when I arrived. He explained everything to me very thoroughly. He picked up on unspoken cues from the family, and immediately put us at ease. The following night, we were told my husband would not recover. We made the painful decision to remove life saving measures. Our nurse handled this process with the utmost compassion and care. He explained the process beforehand, and was checking on us throughout, while giving us privacy at the same time. Afterwards, Dylan’s kindness and compassion were overwhelming. He gave me guidance when I needed it, and I know he took great care of my husband after we left.”

Thank you, Dylan, for the special way you took care of this patient and his family. This is the kind of patient care that people remember long after they leave our hospital.

Remember, a DAISY Award nomination can come from anybody, including coworkers! If you’d like to nominate a fellow nurse coworker, click this link and fill out the form to tell us why they’re so deserving!
