Rapid Response from Hot Springs Team Recognized

The entire Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) team at Hot Springs is being recognized with a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero Award! It’s rare that an entire unit is honored for the same patient, but this is a special case that required all hands on deck to save a life. Here’s what the team’s nomination had to say about that day:

“A patient called LDRP around 1315 reporting that she believed her baby’s umbilical cord was prolapsed … The LDRP team went to the emergency department and waited for the patient to arrive. LDRP staff met the patient at her vehicle at 1401 and immediately laid her on the stretcher and noted that the patient did in fact have a prolapsed cord and imminent delivery was needed. Carla performed an SVE on the stretcher to lift the baby’s head off of the cord and provide oxygen to the baby and Kaci began to search for a fetal heartbeat on the stretcher, while Ally, Jenn, Jordan, and Emma pushed the stretcher to the LDRP unit. While running down the hallway, the scrub techs (Elba, Tayler) held the elevator for the patient and team. The patient made it to the LDRP O.R. by 1404 where they met the OB anesthesia team (Ella, Wai) and OBGYN (Dr. Warford). The patient had an IV placed and was quickly sedated/intubated for surgery. The patient’s surgery started at 1408 and the baby was delivered at 1408 and handed to the team and the pediatrician awaiting to care for her. The baby was born crying and breathing on her own … The LDRP team had fantastic teamwork in a very stressful situation and mother/baby were taken care of extremely fast (seven minutes) and as safely as possible with the best possible outcome.”

What a job by our LDRP team to quickly rescue and take care of mother and newborn baby in seven minutes! That kind of teamwork is more than deserving of this honor.

Don’t forget, if you know of a coworker (or a team) who has gone above and beyond for their patients, nominate them for a Service Hero Award! Click this link and fill out the form to tell us their story.
