Drs. Chakka and Reddy Share Connection of Sleep Disorders and Heart Problems
CHI St. Vincent physicians, Raj Chakka, M.D., Cardiologist, and Raghu Reddy, M.D. Pulmonologist, were interviewed by Arkansas Times for a story about the relationship between sleep and heart health.
Chakka notes that not sleeping well tends to result in unhealthy eating habits right before bed time leading to added pounds and a higher risk for hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.
Reddy explains the connection between sleep apnea (a condition in which there are pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while sleeping) and an increased risks for high blood pressure, heart disease and heart failure.
