Chung Odom Wins Daisy Award
Chung Odom, RN, was the February 2017 DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses winner at CHI St. Vincent. Chung is a nurse on ICU at the Infirmary.
Here’s an excerpt from her nomination letter:
“This nurse came to work on our father who had a spinal cord injury while on vacation. She was an angel we asked for. She took her time and exercised and massaged my Dad’s legs and arms. We hadn’t seen another nurse do this. She made us feel as if we were the only people on the unit. For a little lady, she’s quick on her feet! While checking blood pressure, she allowed us to sleep. She wouldn’t let us feed him. She said, “I got this”, with a smile. Everything she did was with a smile. She treated my Dad like the king I know he is. I’m not sure why this lady is PRN, however, I see a bright future for her. Caring, smart, team player, hard worker, showed a lot of tender loving care.”
The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, so they created this national award to say thank you to nurses everywhere.
