CLABSI Unit Champions Recognized

Everyone at CHI St. Vincent is involved in the process of keeping patients healthy, especially when central line infections are involved.

That’s why career hospitalist Dr. Vineet Chopra spoke to CLABSI Unit Champions on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Dr. Chopra, associate professor of medicine and chief of the division of hospital medicine at Michigan Medicine, has dedicated himself to improving the safety of hospitalized patients through prevention of hospital acquired complications.

His talk, Are PICCs the CVS of the Future, focused on his work identifying and preventing complications associated with central venous catheters with a particular emphasis on peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs).

Committee members were also recognized by Margaret Holm, Market Vice President of Quality, for driving change within CHI St. Vincent and urged them to continue their hard work. “We cannot put our foot off the gas pedal,” she said.

Polly Davenport, Market COO and President of the Infirmary and North, thanked the safety champions for providing better and safer care. “We know the answers and the solutions come from you at the bedside,” she said. “You are the ones saving and changing lives.”

Jennifer Kelley, an orthopedic surgery supervisor at the Infirmary, provided CLABSI training to more than 100 people and gave first-hand testimony about the importance of the training. “Doing this correctly can save a patient’s life.”
