Dr. Chris Young Wants to Be Like Mike

Each year during Heritage Week, not only do we take time to reflect on our past, and look to our future, but we take time to offer special recognition to some of our deserving coworkers for the incredible work they do daily. This year, in Hot Springs, in addition to the Sister Dorothy Calhoun Service Excellence Award (won by Heather Diggs, RN) and the newly renamed Deacon Patrick McCruden Leadership Award (won by Marti Favorite, BSMT (ASCP)), an inaugural award was given to an outstanding physician.

Chris Young, MD, orthopedic surgeon, was the recipient on this new award, which in and of itself was an incredible honor, but winning this award meant even more to him. You see this award, named for his brother, was the Michael Young, MD Physician Award.

Michael Young, MD was a long-term orthopedic surgeon in Hot Springs, that touched all he interacted with…his fellow physicians, his staff, his patients and the entire community. In a very touching ceremony, witnessed by members of both his and Dr. Mike’s family, Dr. Chris told of how Mike was always humble and a team player more concerned with results saying,

“I don’t care if I ever score a touchdown, as long as our team wins.” Dr. Chris was moved saying, “I don’t know if any doctor, certainly me, can live up to Mike, but this award makes me want to strive to be more like Mike!”

Well said, Dr. Chris! Thank you for being “like Mike!”
