Heart Institute Celebrates 100th LVAD Implant

The CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute recently celebrated the 100th Ventricular Assist Device implant with the medical team and some patients!

LVAD’s are used in place of transplant for people with heart failure by helping the weakened heart pump blood through the body while allowing the patient to go home until they are able to receive a heart transplant if or when it becomes available.

Dr. Muhammad Waqas, Dr. Gerry Jones, Infirmary President, and the team of nurses, APRNs, physical therapists and pharmacists were there to celebrate the occasion.

Patients in attendance raved about their care while at CHI St. Vincent, and one patient even teared up talking about the life-saving implant made possible by the team.

One coworker described the patients as family and how joyful they are to see patients make a full recovery.
