DAISY Winning Nurse Stays to Watch TV with Patient After Shift
Congratulations John Bondhus, RN, for being named a Hot Springs DAISY Award winner!
John was nominated three times by visitors for this award! First, a patient’s family member who was under his care on 5 East.
The family member said their dad was feeling down after a long stay in the hospital. One night after they left, John checked in on the patient. When John saw the patient was a little distressed, John stayed and watched TV with the patient after he got off work.
“This lifted my dad’s spirits and even got him laughing. He is invested in the well being of his patients beyond what is expected or required.”
Another visitor also nominated John for his care towards their dad. They nominated him for this award after two days of care, saying he had been amazing. They said John is compassionate, attentive and communicative.
“He’s clearly invested in the holistic well being of his patients and knows how to get my dad to smile.”
Another patient’s family member was impressed by John’s nursing abilities and care for their wife. They said he did everything from the dirtiest parts of the job to the little things like teaching them how to use the air conditioner, and all with a genuine smile on his face.
“His knowledge and skill seemed limitless and was eclipsed only by his love and kindness for his patients.”
The patient’s husband said John’s sense of humor was infectious and really helped to comfort and relax both him and his wife in what was an otherwise tense and stressful situation.
“He is a perfect example of what a nurse or caregiver can and should be.”
