Security Guard Gets Service Hero Honor After Oxygen Tank Solution

Congratulations to Chris Lackey, security guard in Hot Springs, on being named a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero! Chris truly went the extra mile for an unhoused patient who depended on oxygen for his health. Read the nomination to see just how far Chris is willing to go to help someone in need:

“We had a patient who was currently homeless and had no family/friends except for one person that attempted to do a good deed and take in the patient’s belongings once EMS took him in. The friend travels for work and was needing all of the patient’s belongings out of his van so he could leave. These belongings not only included many bags of clothing, etc but also several oxygen tanks and O2 machines that were not able to be returned to the company. The patient is dependent on O2 at baseline. When security was contacted, Officer Lackey came to the MICU floor and called others to collaborate a solution. He was able to secure the O2 tanks out of the back of this friend’s van (potentially saving the patient’s life), but also helped coordinate a storage location in the hospital for the patient’s belongings until discharge. Officer Lackey also obtained patient label stickers to make sure all belongings were properly labeled. He even told the patient that he would get him a Sunday paper because so the patient could look for a rental property before getting discharged. Officer Lackey and the security team went above and beyond and said “yes” over and over to helping a person in need.”

What a testament to a servant’s heart! Thank you, Officer Lackey, for finding any way possible to help someone in need. This is what being a service hero is all about.

If you know of a coworker who has gone above and beyond for others, you should nominate them for a CHI St. Vincent Service Hero Award! Just click this link and fill out the form to let us know what makes them so special!
