Iemina Grecea, RN, who works in MICU in Hot Springs, was recognized as a Service Hero for displaying the value of COMPASSION.
Iemina was nominated by a coworker who praised the care she showed to a recent patient and his wife.
Iemina took the time to get to know the couple on a personal level, and as the patient’s condition began to deteriorate, she began conversations with the family about palliative care and end-of-life decisions.
This difficult conversation coincided with the couple’s 55th wedding anniversary, so Iemina arranged to have a small cake and candle sent to the unit and cut out the number 55 to place on top of the cake. She purchased a balloon from the gift shop and a card that everyone on the unit signed.
“The amount of light she brought them in a dark situation is the epitome of compassion; it’s looking beyond what we can do physically and reaching into spiritual compassion and healing.”
