Infirmary ED Holds Mock Pediatric Disaster Drill

The Infirmary’s Emergency Department recently held a pediatric disaster triage drill.

James Fose, ED Nursing Manager, said they worked in collaboration with the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Response Systems (OPERS) in the Arkansas Department of Health (pediatrics). MEMS employees were also included in the drill as well as the Arkansas Trauma System (TraumaCom).

The setting was there was a bus crash on 630 and Arkansas Children’s Hospital was on complete diversion, unable to take patients.

TraumaCom contacted CHI St. Vincent to prepare for incoming patients. The staff had to triage and treat from this point on.

“It was a complete success for both the ED and MEMS staff.  We plan to do more drills, including other hospitals, in the future,” said Fose.
