Infirmary Social Worker Wins Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award
A social worker at the Infirmary location has been recognized with the Chick-fil-A Humankindness Award for her extraordinary support of a long-term patient. Robbie Ward decided to help a patient and his loved one in a remarkable way. Here’s the nomination:
“In my seven years of working at CHI St. Vincent, I don’t know that I have ever seen compassion carried out in such a profound way until today. Our team social worker, Robbie Ward, helped arrange a marriage ceremony for a patient and their significant other. This patient had been hospitalized for over two months. The patient was scheduled to have surgery the following day, so he and his significant other requested they be wed. Robbie helped obtain the appropriate paperwork for the marriage license to be created, she assisted in arranging the officiant to perform the ceremony, and she even brought sparkling grape juice to toast the newlyweds … the patient’s family was able to join in the ceremony and celebration following.
“Because of this, the patient was able to fulfill a wish of his, and you could visibly see it lift his spirits. I felt very proud to be a part of this team today as I witnessed the selflessness, kindness, and compassion of my coworkers.”
What an amazing act of humankindness! Thank you, Robbie, for going the extra distance for your patient. Don’t forget, there are several awards we give out to recognize the great work that goes on in our hospitals and clinics. To nominate a coworker, click this link and select the award form.
