Infirmary Team Members “Stop the Bleed” at Mount St. Mary’s
Infirmary emergency department team members Brett Calcagno, James Fose and Lauren McConnaughhay, along with RNRPs Donald Griffen and Erika Carter, recently taught 3 Stop the Bleed classes at Mount St. Mary’s Academy. A total of 48 girls attended the event, which focused on saving someone’s life during a massive hemorrhage event. The students were trained on recognizing a hemorrhage, how to apply tourniquets and how to pack wounds, while remaining safe from bloodborne pathogens.
The number 1 cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding. Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes. That’s why initiatives such as Stop the Bleed classes are so important. Thank you for sharing your lifesaving skills with the community!
