North Recognized with AHA Get with the Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Award

Congratulations, North on achieving the following recognition in the
Get with the Guidelines-Stroke program:

  • Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Award
  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll
  • Target: Stroke Advanced Therapy Honor Roll

This achievement award recognizes North’s commitment to ensuring stroke
patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-
based guidelines.

“When it comes to a stroke, time from onset of symptoms to treatment is critical for
patient outcomes,” said Shawn Barnett, president of CHI St. Vincent North. “CHI St.
Vincent is proud to partner with the Get With The Guidelines program, as it allows our
providers to implement proven knowledge and guidelines for stroke patients when every
minute counts.”

Get With The Guidelines-Stroke was developed to assist healthcare professionals by providing
the most up-to-date, research-based guidelines for treating stroke patients. Each year, program
participants apply for award recognition by demonstrating how their organization has committed
to providing quality care for stroke patients. Participants also provide education to patients to
help them manage their health and rehabilitation once at home.

“We are incredibly pleased to recognize CHI St. Vincent North for its commitment to caring for
patients with stroke,” said Dr. Steven Messe, chairperson of the American Heart Association
Stroke System of Care Advisory Group. “Hospitals who participate in this program are
associated with seeing improved patient outcomes while saving more patients’ lives.”

Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States.
On average, someone in the United States suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, and more than
795,000 people experience a new or recurrent stroke each year. Early stroke detection and
treatment are key to improving survival, minimizing disability and speeding recovery times.
