Patient Access Coworkers Named Service Heroes at Infirmary
Sandy Mitchell, Cameo Frye and Ashley Thomas, Patient Access, were named Service Heroes at the Infirmary for displaying the values of COMPASSION and EXCELLENCE.
A patient came to the Cash Office requesting financial assistance, so she was directed to Sandy Mitchell. As Sandy was speaking with the patient she noticed that she seemed dazed and confused. She kept speaking with the patient to obtain more information and noticed that the patient still had on a wrist band showing a recent visit. The patient said she was a volunteer, so Sandy took the patient to the Volunteer Office, but found out she was not a volunteer. Sandy had the patient stay with Juanita while she investigated. She contacted the grandmother, who she was told was the POA. The grandmother informed her that the patient had been off of her medicines and had been taken to the emergency room the night before by ambulance. The grandmother asked if Sandy would please get her some help.
At this time Sandy Mitchell, Ashley Thomas, and Cameo Frye took the patient to the ED where they learned that she had walked away during the early morning shift. The patient promised them she would stay this time so they could fix her medication. Sandy and Ashley stayed with the patient until she was triaged and placed in a room. The mother called and Cameo assured her that her daughter was at the hospital and met her outside. As Cameo went outside to meet the mother, Sandy received a call from the Employee Pharmacy stating that the patient was there requesting assistance. Sandy asked them to hold the patient until she could come down and get her. While Cameo was outside consoling the hysterical mother, Sandy walked the patient to the car and helped her in. The mother was so thankful for their assistance.
This was a prime example of Compassion and Excellence. Well done ladies!
