December Harvest of the Month – Yams
Healthy Eating Matters
As we all work to imaging better health, an important step forward is eating fruits and vegetables every day. They provide key nutrients, help reduce the risk of serious diseases (such as heart disease, cancer, and Type 2 diabetes) and keep your body running smoothly. In fact, fruits and vegetables are so crucial that the U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends they make up half of your plate. Our Harvest of the Month helps you reach that goal.
Nutrition Tools at Your Fingertips
Harvest of the Month features a monthly article available on the well-being pages (formerly known as My Health Spirit) on Inside CHI. Each article provides nutrition information, buying and storing tips, and interesting facts about the featured foods. Links to recipes for that month’s harvest provide you with menu ideas to incorporate the fruit or vegetable into your meals. On the Harvest of the Month page under the Wellness tab on the well-being pages (formerly known as My Healthy Spirit) on Inside CHI you’ll also find a printable calendar with all the 2017 Harvests of the Month. You can use it to watch for your favorite harvests or for new fruits and vegetables you want to try.
